Membership of the Strategic IAG

Find out what's required

Membership

Kent Police is looking for people who reflect the

diversity of kent`s communities, not necessarily

to represent them.  As a member of your

community, you will have a better understanding

of the issues affecting that group than someone

who is not.

You do not need any qualifications, but it is important that you can:

  • work with people from different backgrounds and communities
  • make a positive contribution to police plans and policy
  • express and explain your views to others
  • listen and consider other people`s views
  • speak on your own behalf, rather than as a group representative
  • question and challenge the views of others in a constructive way
  • work as part of a team.

What if you have a criminal conviction?

Having a criminal conviction does not mean you cannot join the IAG, as long as you have declared it on your application form. Members joining will have to undergo a police check, the purpose of which is to ensure the SIAG and Kent Police can have an open yet confidential dialogue on a basis of mutual trust.

Induction and training

IAG members are given an induction to help them understand what the SIAG is and how it works. If we can we will also help you with any training needs you may have to help you with your role in the SIAG.

Expenses

Members of the SIAG can claim reimbursement for out-of-pocket expenses including travel and, if necessary, car for child or adult dependents from the Kent Police Authority. More details of these allowances will be sent to successful applicants.
