The Kent Police and Kent Police Authority Strategic Independent Advisory Group (SIAG) is

  1. a group of people of all ages
  2. drawn from a diverse range of communities
  3. a group that provides impartial advice that helps Kent Police enhance the delivery of services across Kent. 

Kent Police have also set up a local Independent Advisory Group in each of its six policing areas (Basic Command Units). These report into the Strategic IAG. More information can be found on the Members page

 

Background

IAGs were introduced in January 1999 following recommendations that arose from the McPherson Report following the death of Stephen Lawrence.

 
 

Latest news and events

The Kent Equality Cohesion Council is organising a free conference  in partnership with Gravesham Borough Council and Dartford Borough Council around disability issues. They will be looking at issues from a national, county and district perspective and have a range of speakers lined up including from the Commission for Equality and Human Rights who will speak about their recent report into disability-related harassment and how well this is currently being addressed by public authorities, Kent Police, Kent County Council, Kent and Rescue Service as well as partners from the voluntary and community sector.

The conference will take place on:

  • 15 March 2012 between 10am and 1pm at the Civic Centre in Gravesend.  View the programme.

  • The SIAG holds its Annual Forum on Wednesday 28 March 2012 at the Kent Police Training School.
  • Kent Police hosted the national conference for all police Independent Advisory Groups in Ashford on 22 and 23 November 2010. The conference, titled 'Into the Future' aimed to share best practise and was open to all independent advisory group members.
  • The event included high profile speakers and a number of breakout sessions to increase the knowledge of Independent Advisory Group members as to their role and contribution. Delegates were able to network on a one-to-one basis with speakers and colleagues. The SIAG has produced a report on the conference.
